Lavender Haze Soap Project

Project Description
These lavender bars feature a drop swirl and plenty of sparkle, thanks to Lilac Mirage UltraSparkle Mica. Dried lavender is sprinkled on top. It's scented with Peaceful Lavender Fragrance Oil - a warm and sultry lavender scent that behaves well in cold process soap.
You will need:
- 10" Silicone Loaf Mold
- 33 oz. Better than Castile Quick Mix
- 4.6 oz. Sodium Hydroxide Lye
- 10.2 oz. Distilled Water
- 2 tsp. Sodium Lactate
- 1.7 oz. Peaceful Lavender Fragrance Oil
- Titanium Dioxide
- Lavender Mica
- Raspberry Mica
- Ultramarine Blue Pigment
- Lilac Mirage UltraSparkle Mica
- Dried Lavender Buds
Follow these steps:
FRAGRANCE PREP: Measure 1.7 ounces of Peaceful Lavender Fragrance Oil into a small glass container and set aside.
COLORANT PREP: In separate containers, disperse 1 teaspoon of titanium dioxide, Raspberry Mica, Ultramarine Blue Pigment, and Lilac Mirage UltraSparkle Mica into 1 tablespoon of a lightweight liquid oil such as sunflower or sweet almond. Then, disperse 2 teaspoons of Lavender Mica into 2 tablespoons of lightweight liquid oil.Use a mini mixer to get rid of clumps.
Optional: To ensure the titanium dioxide blends smoothly into the soap, we recommend micronizing it before dispersing it in oil. Use a coffee grinder to break up any clumps of color and prevent streaks of white from showing in the final soap. We like to use a coffee grinder that has a removable stainless steel mixing area for easy cleaning.
SAFETY FIRST: Suit up for safe handling practices. That means goggles, gloves, and long sleeves. Make sure kids, pets, other distractions, and tripping hazards are out of the house or don’t have access to your space. Always make soap in a well-ventilated area.

Slowly and carefully add 4.6 ounces of lye to 10.2 ounces of distilled water. Gently stir until the lye has fully dissolved. Set it aside to cool. Add 2 teaspoons of sodium lactate to the lye water.

Melt the entire bag of Better Than Castile Quick Mix until there is no cloudiness. Shake to mix the oils and measure 33 ounces into a heat-safe container. Once the lye water and the oils have cooled to 120° F or below (and are ideally within 10 degrees of each other), add the lye water to the oils and stick blend the mixture to a very thin trace.

Split the soap into the following amounts and add the following dispersed colorants. Whisk each one thoroughly.
- Container A (500 mL): 1 Tbs. Lavender Mica
- Container B (300 mL): 1 Tbs. titanium dioxide + 1/4 tsp. Lavender Mica
- Container C (300 mL): 1 tsp. Lavender Mica + 1 tsp. Raspberry Mica
- Container D (300 mL): 2 tsp. Ultramarine Blue Pigment + 2 tsp. Raspberry Mica

Add the 1.7 ounces of Peaceful Lavender Fragrance Oil proportionally to each container (it's okay to eyeball it). Whisk in thoroughly. If the soap batter is still extremely thin, pulse each container quickly with the stick blender to slightly thicken and thoroughly mix in the colorants and fragrance.

Pour a small amount of the lavender soap into the mold – just enough to cover the bottom. Then alternate pouring small amounts of the dark purple, light purple, and magenta soap into the mold at various heights. That helps the soap drop to different areas of the mold rather than sitting on top and creating layers. Don’t worry about being too precise when you’re pouring.

Once nearly all soap has been poured into the mold, carefully pour the last bits of each color. Pour the soap so each color is represented on the top. Drizzle the Lilac Mirage UltraSparkle Mica mixture on top. Use a small dowel or chopstick to swirl the top in any pattern you'd like.

Sprinkle lavender buds on top in any place you'd like - we concentrated them on one side of the mold, so plenty of sparkle and swirl still shows.

Place the soap on a heating pad set to medium-high heat for 1-2 hours to promote a gentle gel phase. Allow the soap to stay in the mold for 2-3 days. Unmold, cut into bars, and allow the soap to cure for 4-6 weeks. Enjoy!
