Project Description

Moonstones are prized for their beautiful blue-lavender sheen. This effect inspired these bars, made with Lilac Mirage UltraSparkle Mica and Lagoon Green UltraSparkle Mica.

Both micas are incredibly sparkly, and mimic the beautiful shades in a moonstone. They are fragranced with Over the Rainbow Fragrance Oil, a soft cloud-like fragrance with notes of strawberry and amber blossom.

Moonstone Mirage Soap Project

  • Skill Level: Intermediate
  • Time: 1 hour
  • Yield: 6 bars of soap

Both micas are incredibly sparkly, and mimic the beautiful shades in a moonstone. They are fragranced with Over the Rainbow Fragrance Oil, a soft cloud-like fragrance with notes of strawberry and amber blossom.

You will need:

  • Oval Silicone Mold
  • Mini Moon Silicone Column Mold
  • 34 oz. Clear Melt and Pour Soap
  • 0.6 oz. Over the Rainbow Fragrance Oil
  • Lilac Mirage UltraSparkle Mica
  • Lagoon Green UltraSparkle Mica
  • 99% Isopropyl Alcohol

Follow these steps:

1

Chop 4 ounces of Clear Melt and Pour Soap Base into small, uniform pieces. Place in a small heat-safe container and melt in the microwave using 10-15 second bursts. Add about 1/4 teaspoon of Lagoon Green UltraSparkle Mica or more depending on your preference. Stir until fully mixed in with no chunks of mica.
TIP: Spritz with 99% isopropyl alcohol to help break up chunks of mica.

2

Place the Mini Moon Silicone Column Mold into a tall container to keep it upright. Pour the soap into the mold and allow it to fully cool - this will take about an hour. Remove from the mold and clean up the embed if necessary using a sharp knife or clean-up tool.

Cut the embed into six pieces that will stand vertically in the Oval Mold - you want them to be flush with the top of the mold.
TIP: We found each embed piece needs to be about 1.1 inches, or 3 cm tall.

3

Chop 30 ounces of Clear Melt and Pour Soap Base into small, uniform pieces. Melt in the microwave using 30-60 second bursts.

4

Once fully melted, add 0.6 ounces of Over the Rainbow Fragrance Oil and 2 teaspoons of Lilac Mirage UltraSparkle Mica. Stir in thoroughly until there are no chunks of mica.
TIP: Spritz with 99% isopropyl alcohol to help break up chunks of mica.

5

Place the moon embeds upright into each cavity of the Oval Mold, wherever you'd like them to be. Pour the sparkly white soap into each cavity until flush with the moon embed. Spritz with alcohol to pop bubbles. Continue until all the cavities are full.
TIP: Make sure the white soap is no hotter than about 130-140 degrees, or it may start to melt the moon embeds.

6

Allow to fully harden and cool for about 2-3 hours, up to overnight. To unmold, pull th sides of the mold away from each bar to break the airlock. Push the soap from the back to release. Enjoy!
